The Honda is more refined than rivals such as the Ford Focus RS and the Subaru WRX STI. Still, buyers who can live with its outrageous styling will be rewarded with a phenomenal driver's car. While the Civic Type R started at $36,595 when 2019 models first went on sale, Honda has since increased the price by $635. The super Civic's color palette is also expanded to include Sonic Gray Pearl. Along with those updates, the Type R receives larger cupholders, a revised switch for the electronic-parking brake, and more streamlined steering-wheel controls. The climate controls also now have a hard button that adjusts the fan speed. Honda has graciously added a volume knob and physical buttons for 2019 that instantly make the system more user-friendly. While we've heaped praise on the Type R, and deservedly so, we've also bemoaned its frustrating touchscreen-based infotainment interface-until now. While words can't fully describe what the Type R is like to drive, we strongly suggest you don't judge this crazy sonuvahatch by its cover. Its in-your-face styling may be too much to stomach, but its funky looks are forgotten after your belly fills with butterflies from its bonkers engine and gigantic grip. The sole powertrain is a sweet six-speed manual gearbox paired with a 306-hp turbocharged four-cylinder. Honda has seemingly perfected front-wheel-drive performance on the Type R by all but eliminating unpleasant torque steer and prioritizing balance through celestial chassis tuning. To all who disagree, we say don't knock it until you try it. We know it's the latter, seeing as we named it a 10Best Cars winner along with the impressive Civic Sport hatchback and the Civic Si: What’s more, the Type R beat the Ford Focus RS in a head-to-head comparison. Haters think it's too hideous to own, and backers believe it's too fantastic to miss. I’ve started logging my mileage w/ my frequent trips to the gas pump. The radical Civic Type R is a polarizing hi-po hatchback. The gurgling atleast comes & goes now, after i drive it around a bit in Sports-mode, BUT* still no relief when it comes to my gas mileage. & My car wasnt exposed to any rain, puddles, any water of any kind (severe drought) not even a car wash. My average MPG meter randomly reset itself to 4MPG. I started my car, and the loud gurgling returned. My gas mileage improved, until about 2 months ago. They drained the water from my exhaust, and told me to avoid water. They couldnt find my warranty info, & said i’d have to pay for them to investigate. Last spring, the dealership said they didn't hear what i was talking about. Loud gurgling that would stop by standers & have them like “W.t.F.?!”.and i’d soak folks when i’d hit the gas. My 2 previous civics (2014 & 2016 sedans) always had excellent gas mileage.īut my 2019 honda civic touring sedan started getting horrific gas mileage last winter, when I kept accumulating a mass amount of water in my exhaust. No car or driver are the same, but I don’t think I could have gotten under 15 mpgs if I tried and maybe got under 30 mpgs for a tank (and I’m talking 28-29) in 3 years of having that car. Back when I had my Si… my computer was within 2 mpgs of me doing math. Or driving through deeeep water… but even then that’s be a singular event that’d correct through heat and time. I’m generally not pro-fuel additives… but I know Heet makes products to help with water-comprised fuel systems.Īll the previous recommendations to ensure there aren’t other things wrong with your car are good ones… and to monitor your coolant levels as that’s normally the only way water could be introduced through a bad head gasket. It’s been going for a long time, but I’d try getting fuel elsewhere just to test that variable in case you’re getting junky gas… especially if you consistently buy from the same location. There was a gas station off I-95 where I live that got in trouble by having water-contaminated fuel.
